Destination Weddings | Paris

I’m heading to the Wedding MBA again this year (4th year in a row!) and hosting a Q&A on destination weddings. My preparation got me to taking a stroll down memory lane, looking at old documents and photos of the weddings, and I just had to share some of my favorites here; this post showcases stunning florals and venues from past Paris weddings.

Oh-so French Florals

Peonies featured big time in many of our weddings, particularly in the spring, when Paris is literally full of them! Florals by Estelle Preston – you cannot do better than hire her for your big day in Paris!

Perfect Paris Settings

You don’t have to have your wedding at the Versailles to have a truly stunning backdrop. Many cafes inhabit beautiful ornate buildings; very little decor is needed.

Beach Wedding: Sea Breezes at Hotel Portofino

By | Hotel Portofino and Yacht Club, Lavender Decor, Wedding Consultant, Wedding Decor, Wedding Design, Wedding Planner | No Comments

When I first met with Danielle and Jared together, I was struck at how thoughtful and calm they were.  They carefully evaluated each decision about their wedding, but didn’t obsess; they listened to their vendors’ advice and trusted all of us, which was so wonderful.  (And when she showed me her dress from BHLDN, I was smitten!)  I was also excited to work their venue, the Hotel Portofino and Marina, based in Redondo Beach.  It was pretty much a beach wedding – we were just a few feet from the water! In fact, as the couple were getting their photos taken (by the awesome photographer Brady Puryear), a boat passed by in the nearby inlet and the passengers hooted and waved in congratulations.

Danielle had a beautiful aesthetic: clean, pretty lavender colors with touches of greenery and fresh hydrangea.  It worked so well in the space.  We provided design consultation to help flesh out her ideas, and her florist, friend Bea Tran who owns Floral Event Production, came up with beautiful ideas for seamless execution.   The beach wedding feel was set off by the fresh florals and light colors.

Personal touches, such as lavender cones with seeds to toss at the couple during the ceremony, as well as a thoughtful ceremony by a dear friend, made the wedding truly individual and unique.  As the sun set, Danielle and Jared got some great photos by the water, and guests enjoyed cocktails on the patio.  Their DJ, Mike Tinio, spun music all night and got the crowd dancing literally to the very end!

The hotel served outstanding cuisine, wedding cake, and also provided lighting as well. The Portofino became a turnkey solution for many elements of the wedding. It was really one of those smooth, fun experiences that make you want to be come a planner in the first place! Our congrats to the couple and thanks for bringing us along for the journey!

This last May, el nino threatened our chances of an outdoor wedding, but in the end, love prevailed!  This wedding, with elements of Korean customs, was full of joy, laughter, and tasteful touches of Jackie Combs of Lotus and Lily’s floral and event design. Delicious food and seamless entertainment and beautiful lighting from outstanding vendors made this a hugely successful event, at one of our all-time favorite venues.  The beautiful photos below are from Iris and Light.

Real Wedding: Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel

By | Blush and Pink Wedding, Juice Box Media, Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel, Wedding Decor, Wedding Design, wedding flowers, Wedding Planner | No Comments

Some time ago, my father attended a national banker’s conference at Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel; his job at the time was managing and implementing such conferences for his own employer, and his company was going to implement the next year’s national conference, so his attendance was part preparation as well. For me, it was an opportunity to check out this incredible property.
Fate, via a dear former client who referred us, brought me to work with a couple last May for their Ritz wedding.  They were a joy to work with, as was a particular catering manager who was assigned to us and worked hard to make sure they had a smooth planning process.  The look, brought to life by Doily Design Haus, was full of blush, golds, and creams, and was simply stunning in the room.   It’s been a year now since the wedding and I still remember it fondly, as it took me back to a venue that so impressed me years ago.

Real Wedding: Moroccan touches at Cliff’s Edge

By | event design, Flowers, Moroccan Design Weddings, Uncategorized, Wedding Decor, Wedding Design, wedding flowers | No Comments

Collaboration is the key to cohesive, personalized design for every client’s wedding. For this beautiful celebration last October, our couple provided us Buddha statues, lanterns, and handmade runners and we provided the floral decor and a few other cool touches.  Guests were delighted by the spiritual, zen elements that went so well with the lush, hideaway atmosphere of the restaurant Cliff’s Edge.  Photos by Jenna Rose Photography.

Real Wedding: Latin Speakeasy at SmogShoppe

By | Planning, Red and Black weddings, SmogShoppe, Wedding Decor, Wedding Design, wedding flowers | No Comments

When asking wedding couples their theme, the idea is not to come up with something cartoonish or kids-party-esque, but to have a springboard into a sophisticated aesthetic and influence over the food, beverage, and music.  With this recent SmogShoppe wedding, the theme was Latin Speakeasy.  The decor of rich reds and lush greenery, a tequila bar, and touches of charm such as Spanish signage and a DIY boutonierre bar for guests fulfilled the couples’ vision of a playful yet classy ambiance.

We assisted in helping find a great food and beverage vendor (Rasta Taco/Huntington Catering Company), sourcing design details such as signage and escort cards (The Apothecary Bee) and dessert + greeting tables, and provided florals as well. Our bride was a so clever at finding perfect touches online and elsewhere, including vintage postcards and gold votive candles.  We also sourced trays and materials for the greeting table and dessert table, including hand stenciling and distressing wood crates for a customized accent.

The fabulous photos below are by Juan Turcios.  The rest of the team included the phenomenal DJ Marion Hodges of KCRW, Cake Monkey for awesome desserts, and StageLabs for the lighting.

One Table, Two Ways: Event Design Options

By | Budget and Costs for Wedding Florals and Design, event design, Event Design Tips for Weddings, Wedding Design, wedding flowers | No Comments

One of the most fun aspects of wedding planning is creating the overall look of your event design. It can be a little overwhelming too, due to all the many, many options out there- so many inspiration photos, blogs, Pinterest boards! The key thing to remember is that your desired look has an affect on your budget, too.

In this styled shoot, our inspiration began with the Lismore Gardens print linen from Luxe Linens. (By the way, the photos are by one of our favorite vendors, Jillian Rose Photography.) You don’t see prints used a lot in weddings, but here’s a great trick about them: They add more visual elements for the eye to look at, thus, the tables feel more populated; thus – you may not need as much decor as with a plain linen. And they’re just cool, unique, and playful.

napkin with gemFor one version of this tablescape, we created floral pieces overflowing with roses and eucalyptus, votives, and bejewelled napkins.

wide of florals dee shoot

Another version has lanterns along the center of the tables. The lanterns have a faux-worn, vintage feel, with a cream color that melds well with the overall design. The florals on the table are now bud vases. The cost differential in this case, swapping out the lanterns for the larger floral pieces, can be substantial, yet the lanterns add visual interest, a focal point down the center of the table, and can be used at your home after the wedding or re-sold online.

This is just one example of how playing with options can help you meet your spending goals without a sacrifice on style. We go through this process all the time with clients as design can spiral wildly beyond the original vision, but with careful thought and research, the integrity of the event can be maintained without blowing your budget.

Luxury Estate Wedding at Malibu Rocky Oaks

By | Estate Wedding, Malibu Rocky Oaks Wedding, Malibu Wedding, Nick Saglimbeni Photography, Uncategorized, Wedding Coordinator, Wedding Decor, Wedding Design, Wedding Planner | No Comments

One of our favorite venues is Malibu Rocky Oaks, a working winery with a gorgeous chateau perched at the end of a long, winding driveway, overseeing the vineyards and most of – no, definitely – all of Los Angeles. In my opinion, the best view in town.

We are honored to be on the preferred vendor list at MRO, and adore working with the team there.  It’s a substantial amount of logistics and coordination, but hey, that’s what we do! The goal when managing an event at a high-concept space such as MRO is having logistics so well planned from the outset, that guests don’t see the ‘gears’ grinding away – we want it all to feel organic and flowing.

For this particular bride and groom, we oversaw the full execution of their event.   We sought the best vendors to provide the bride and groom with a beautiful ceremony and reception: Jackie Combs of Lotus and Lily Floral and Event Design provided the florals and decor, LM Event Productions provided the lighting and rentals, and various friends and family came together for the music and entertainment, including the fabulous Jerry Warren – with his band, he played incredible R&B and jazz music throughout.  The cake by Hot Cakes Bakes was exceptional as well.  Videographer Isabel Cinemateque filmed the day, and photos by the talented Nick Saglimbeni / Slickforce Studio captured every moment.

Real Wedding: Modern and Sleek at the AT&T Center

By | Callaway Cable, Succulents, Uncategorized, Wedding Ceremony, Wedding Consultant, Wedding Decor, Wedding Design, Wedding Planning Checklist | No Comments

Los Angeles is known for its unique, out-of-the-box spaces.  With these spaces come a whole lot of logistical conditions and moving parts, but boy, is the end result worth it.  The AT&T center downtown has a fabulous space at the top of the building with an incredible view.  Working in a high rise requires rock-solid logistics and special permits, but with proper planning the whole day went without a hitch.

Sima and Houman wanted a fresh, modern wedding with glam touches and a welcoming feel.  Together we crafted a design that included cool white, silver sequins, and dramatic lighting. As their wedding consultant, I helped build a team of vendors to ensure their big day went off without a hitch.

It was also another opportunity to work with the fantastic photography team of Callaway Gable.  We’re so glad we were able to be a part of this amazing event!

Real Wedding: Trump Ballroom Glamour

By | Flower Duet, Planning, Uncategorized, Wedding Coordinator, Wedding Design, Wedding Planner | No Comments

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to move to L.A. and be by the beach.  Now, as a ‘grownup,’ I get to work by the ocean all the time.  Last year, I worked with a stylish, sophisticated couple that wanted to be married by the beach, and fell in love with the Trump National Golf Club.

Working with a soft palette of gold, pink, and ivory, with a counterpoint of handsome navy, we worked together to build an atmosphere of romantic glamour – by the sea.

All of these stunning photos are by Sam Lim Studio.
